It is a sad evening.

I fear for our country.

Have faith. Stay informed. Be ever vigilant. Pray for wisdom for our leaders. It’s not the end of the world – but it is definitely a change.

Take care of your family and finances. Be strong and wise in your decisions about investments, purchases, and career opportunities.

The market is not reacting in a positive fashion. That will take some time to settle. The world is probably catching their breath. The evil ones that want to hurt us are probably planning.

I’m also very fearful that the ugly evil racial faction in America will plot to harm our new president.

I dont’ know what else to say.

I felt similar in 1992 but we were ok. I fear the country will slide far to the left but it only has to put up with 4 years and we can right it again.

This country can withstand bad on the outside and bad on the inside. It can surely withstand this.

Before crying out that the sky is falling, let’s see how things unfold.

The first clue will be who Obama chooses for his cabinet and other advisers. If he truly reaches “across the aisle” and includes people from both the left and the right, that’s a sign that maybe his administration won’t be as radical as some seem to fear.

I had similar fears for our country in 2000 and 2004, and they were pretty much confirmed. Let’s hope that your fears this year are not.

I feel like I should clarify. I am the most worried about having a completely democratic dominated House, Senate and Presidency. I fear that the needed checks and balances will not be in place. One man is not the cause for my true concern.

I have little to no admiration for Obama or Biden and I am truly disappointed.

Today is my pity party and tomorrow I will look to the future.

Donna—I could not find any more videos besides part 1.

I seem to remember Daryl saying something like this right after September 11, 2001.

“I’m glad Bush is in office rather than Gore”

I wonder if he remembers saying that.

I think much of the country has forgotten their core emotions after being attacked and how we rallied around our President and his choice to go to war for our country!

From the link I gave you, click “Full Coverage: John Stossel’s Complete Guide to Politics”. It’ll bring up a page with all 5 parts. I saw this on TV a few weeks ago. He’s very sensible.

Basically, the message is that politics really affect our own personal lives very little. I mean even Daryl would be hard pressed to explain the how Iraq war has affected him personally in his own house on Kenwood Lane. When you look back (and ahead) over the decades, taxes rise and fall, things change a little. But the collective will of the masses of people do not allow it to go too far one way before it is pulled back the other. (That’s the beauty of a two party system.) Stossel even points out that socialism eventually failed in European countries because it didn’t work for the masses of people.

I worry more about the intense hatred in our nation than any political issue. We are headed toward a political civil war if we don’t figure out how to reunite as a nation.

    Donna, well said.

Heather, Congress and the President were both the same party for Bush’s first 6 years, and everything went fine… Oh, wait a minute. That didn’t work out very well, did it. Maybe you have a point…

Don, you’re putting words in my mouth. I never said I was glad that Bush was in office instead of Gore. I did praise Bush for his early response to the attack, and thought that his speech a couple of days later was one of the best speeches I have ever heard. But I was sure then as I am now that Gore’s immediate reaction would have been at least as good, and long term would have been much, much better.

    But this is long past.

No Daryl, you said to me “I’m glad it’s Bush in office instead of Gore”. You may not want to remember that but I will swear on a stack of bibles that’s true.

But yes, what Donna said is pretty much what I was trying to say in my comment above. The country will survive.

Nope. Never. In your dreams, maybe.

If it makes you feel better, ok.
